«. • ■ Quite a large number assembled last evening at the Methodist School, room, the occasion being the Bichelors' Social in connection with iht j Mutual Improvement Society, th. President, Me Woollass, taking th chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr Biroham, of Hal combe, was chosen as judge for th. occasion. The programme for the evening was then gone through as follows : Pianoforte selection, Mr S. H Baker; songs, Messrs A. Sanndeiß . and S. Howan ; recitations, Me?rrJabnstone nnd N. Saunders. Great interest was taken in th< wood-sawing competition for ladits. Mention mast be made of the supper, which was thoroughly enjoyed. Mr J. Walls being responsible foi > this part of the programme. It was decided to hold the next meeting on Tuesday, July 20 h, in stead of Wednesday, when a lecture will be given by Mr 0. Anderson, of Rongotea, on " Socialism."
