Fire.
• 'A very narrow escape from the total destruction by fire of Mrs Harris' bootshop occurred at 4 a.m. yesterday morning. Mr Harris states that he retired to rest with his family about midnight on Tuesday, and was awoke about 4 a.m! by smelling smoke in the „ bedroom. On going downstairs he Jlfeund the fire had burnt through the ceiling from a fireplace built on the upper floor, for which there was only a hearth one brick in thickness. He at once got some buckets of water and managed to put the fire out. The fire . made a fair-sized hole in "the floor and
ceiling. The shop is the property ot a Native, and the stock belongs to Mrs Harris, and is insured with the furniture for £150.
