RISE IN WOOL. Messrs Buxtons Balme's and Jacomb's joint wool catalogue com* prising 11,222 bales, and included a splendid selection of all classes, especially merinos. There was a record attendance of Home and Continental buyer?. No Americans were present. There was fierce competitions for merinos, which went. 15 to 20 per cent., and occasionally more, above the beat rates realised at the March sales. Crossbreda were in brisk demand, and fine quality advanced 10 per cent.; medium, 7J- per cent.: low 5 percent. The rise in wool exceeded all anticipations. The rise is due to short supply and bare stocks. There ia a strong demand for fine wools. RITUALISM. The Archbishop of Canterbury (the Most Rev Dr Temple) and the Archbishop of York, (the Mos 4 ; Rev Dr Maclagan), jointly received an influential deputation of lay members of the Church of England, who expressed concern as to the effect upon the government of the Church which would rise from the predent Ritualistic movement. ■ In answer to the represenfations, the Archbishops ptates their belief chat the efforts made by the Bishop 3 to control the actions cf the Ritualistic section of the clergy would have results that would satisfy all fair-minded people. The Archbishop of York added it was recognised that the claims of the laity in regard to the govern ment of the Church were urgent. Possibly, he suggested some arrangements would be made for a revision ot the book of Common Prayer.
