ENGINEER'S REPORT.

I have to report that Mr Andresen has taken up the street lighting at the rate of £30 per annum.

On Saturday it was reported to me that the street lamp at the junction of Park street and Robinson Street had been broken, three of the pieces of glass forming the top of the lamp were smashed.

I inspected the drain on west side of Patrick street and Symons outlet, and not being satisfied with the way the work had been down at once wrote Morrow the contractor pointing out the terms of specification.

As nothing was done by Morrow I asked Andrews and Webb for a price for completing the work according to the terms of specification. Their price is is 6d per chain for Symons outlet and is per chain for Patrick street drain. I beg to recommend that this offer be accepted that the cost be deducted from Morrow, and that the balance and his deposit be paid Morrow.

On Saturday it was reported to me that coal was being carted along the west side footpath on Main-street. I went, and meeting constable Forster we saw Mr James Collins come over the government section near the ferry, and drive over the footpath. The footpath for about one chain is rutted. Constable Forster suggestion that an information be laid. .

Metal is needed on the Moutoa road, Wirokino road, Main-street, and Cemetery road, and beg to recommend that 700 tons of Palmerston shingle and 100 yards of shingle from Nye's pit be obtained. Also that tenders be called for carting.

R. Chapman.
