Horse Stabbing.
» . : PALMERSTON VISIT El> BY THE "HORSE FIEND/ We are sorry to lean* that the " horse fi nd " bai made hit unweloorm appearance in this district, and that Mr E. Stevenson baa been a lostr by bis advent here. Lately five horses in Mr Stevemoo's charge have been stabbed, the culprit aiming at hamstringing the animals. Th» most severely injured of the lot is a black mare, and she: received a deep Ground on the* offside hock, and it is hardly likely that she will recover from the injury, A fine upstanding bay gelding received a deep cut on the forearm, but the wound is healing nicely and he appears to be on a fair road to recovery. On Thursday night the well-known hunter 4I Glengdrcj," the property of Mr Lnughnan, solicitor was stabbed on the near aide hock, fortunately the joint aimed at having just been missed by half-an-inoh. The stabbing in each case appears to have been done with a thin knife with a sharp edge. The horses were in different paddocks, so apparently tho mischief has been done by someone who is acquainted with the horses in Mr Stevenson's charge and has a grudge against him, which he vented on the 1 unfortunate aninuls.— Standard.
