Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY. APRIL 15, 1809. The Road to the Beach
Even if we get a railway to the sea beach yet a good road will also be a necessity. The Manawatu County Council, after much moving by the Borough Council* have done well ia
getting the road exchanged and formed for which purpose it borrowed a certain sum of money. From Correspondence which has passed between the two Councils we learn that the whole amount of this loan has been expended and thus ihe road cannot be metalled. It is on this point the Borough Council could again approach the Count)', as the Awahou Riding is a wealthy body and most of the roads are in fairly good order, therefore out of ordinary revenue there should be money to do, if not all the metalling, at any rate a portion each year. The road would be appreciated by one of the largest ratepayers in the Riding, and would be more so by all the townspeople. We believe earnest representations of these facts by the Borough Council to the County would have very great weight, and probably lead to the work being done.
