Trial Shipment of Poultry.
The Hawera S:ar says :— Rally that is a very comical telegram which appears announcing that the Agricul cural Department ha^s decided not to ■*end a tiial fhipnit-nfc of dresst-d poultry this season because of the scarcity of bird.->, and will do nothing until next spasnn. As they say in the courts, " Would it surprise you, Mr •Manager of the Agricultural Department, to know that a private firm in Hawera has thh week sent five trial ehiDmenU of 100 head each, and has made arrangements by which next year there will probably be a large supply." Of course r.hi 3 iaia fact well known here, Mr Gowin, of Lovell and Christmas, and MuAlpine, of the West Coast Farm 'iV Association having b^timss given a good advance, ?nft thp pouUry, h;id it frozen, and sent home. Some of it must be eaten by this time. The Agricultural Department, wiil Lry it next season, wh-n private enterprise will have already done the pioneer work.
