A New invention.
Soma amazement was created parly on Saturday morning, January 21, in the minds of a number of early risers who happened tb Uis io the vicinity of the ikgent'* <3 anal* near Greenford, beyond Ken.al Green ( -ijiys Lloyd's Weekly), fay the unusual spectacle of a man walking' on tbe surface of th. water. The water pedestrian informed an inquisitive journalist ihat his name was Albert Symond*. ft j .nrrieyinan zinc worker by trade, and that be resided at P .rtebello road, W. He had long been endeavouring to invent a water- walking boot^'or rather, boot support, aod he thought he hid done it. Mr SymondsV invention is so very .simple thatit is marvellous that it has not been thought of before. Ifc consists of two tin plates, Sin. in diameter, and several feet in length. Flanges pn jact from tbe sides astd the pipes are sharply pointed at the ettds. Tbe feet are strapped tothe pipes bnween the fl.ngs which- the weight of tbe body forces just below the surface of the water, so that the adventurer appears to be walking oe. the water withoat eay aupport whatever. Mr Symonds carried a stick in his haud to balance himaelf-wish and is thus not only able o^traik wilb ease, but to kneel on one -fneie/ stop and perform all sorts of tricks.
