PURE WATER.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE MANAWATO HER ALB. Sir, — In your issue of Tuesday last you give what purports to be a test for the purity of drinking water. This test (so called), is of no use whatever. Should the sugar contain, any lime (carbonate of lime is a common adul- v|i terant of lump sugar), the water would ™ become milky looking, no matter how pure, particularly so in a small room where many persons had been during the day. The supply of pure water for drinking purposes is of such importance to the general health of the community *hat I am willing to test any sample which may be brought to me as to its freedom from sewage matter, free of charge. Any one bringing such to me must be careful that their bottle is quite clean to start with, and rinse it ont with the water to be tested before filling it, and then be careful to use a clean cork. a | Of course it must be understood Jr ' that I do not purpose to give a full

analysis, but simply test if the water submitted is fit for domestic purposes. Thanking you in anticipation. I am, Sec, W. Hamer, M.P.S., Analyticsl and Pharmaceutical Chemist.
