The Late Friendly Societies' Sports.
: I It is pl.vwig to find that our Pal- • merston friends appreciated the welcome tendered to those who attended the picnic and sports on 2nd January at Victoria Park. The following letter has been received by the Mayor (Alf. Fraser, Esq.), from Mr S. J. Watson, secretary of the Loyal Manawatu Lodge, and which is of such interest that we publish it to-day : — Sir, — The Palmerston North Friendly Societies Picnic Committee have passed a resolution heartily thanking yourself and the citizens of Foxton for their kind reception accorded the excursionists by the special train on January 2nd. The success of the gathering was due to a large extent to the assistance given the committee by a large number of the residents of Foxton. Your kindness was highly spoken of by a large number of people. I have also to convey to you the thanks of the committee for the handsome special prizes given for the sports at the picnic. The committee were extremely pleased with the ground, both as a site for a picnic and also for sports ; and they have recommended to the various Lodges the advisability of holding the next picnic at Foxton. Two of the Lodges have already approved of the suggestion of holding the next annual picnic at Foxton. Trusting the ground will be available, should it be decided to hold the next picnic at Foxton. I am, &c, S. J. Watson, Secretary.
