The Bond Contest.
The Quick-step Competition in connection with the Band . Contest took place at Palmerston on Thursday, in * the presence of 6000 people. It is considered by competent authorities to have been the best spectacle of the kind held in New Zealand. Eight bands competed. Following are the results: Wellington Garrison ooj, Wanganui Garrison 8g} t Waihi 88£, Palmerston 87 J, Woodville Bi£, Feilding 86, Greymoutb, 73, Mitcheltown 72J. baritone Horn and Euphonium Solos were to be taken last night. Previous to the competition, the bands assembled in the square, marching and playing in combination, to the Show Grounds. An immense concourse of people attended. There was a chilly southeast breeze during the afternoon. Slight dissatisfaction is felt at the seeming insufficient attention to facing in which the Wanganui were nearest, being only one second and one pace short. Waihi was a very popular third. The remainder of the solo competitions were continued last evening. MoKfte and Gamble, Photo Eagiiwl? and Lithographers, Wellington. Bead for qaotttios.
