The Flax Market.
The condition of the hemp market when the last mail left England (18th January) is thu3 given in the circular of the National Mortgage and Agency Company. Until the past few days New Zealand hpmp has been quite neglected, and £17 per ton c.i f. was accepted for January-February stonmer ; there has lately been more inquiry, how* c-Vdr, owing to tho advance in Manila and 80 tons hava been ?old for January-March t-hipment at £17 10* per ton c.i.f., with further buyers thereat, but no sellers,. Spot and n-ar-at-hand parce'o are also inquired for, and good f*ir quality is quoted at £19 10* and fair £20 per ion ex warehouse. The Manila market rein lined inactive, with price 3in favor of buyers until quit* lately, l>ut under the influence of prolonged disturbances in the Philippine*, and the effect of large b?.&v sales having been made at low price?, the demand has improved, and values have advanced fully £2 per ton from the lowest point, £26 per ton c.i.f. hi iog the present quotation for fair current.
