■»■ In the steadily increasing siz° at ocean going steamships, the Great Extern has at last been surpassed in length though not in . tonnage. The Oceanic lately launched by Harland and Wolff, Belfast, Ireland, for the White Stair Line, is 704 ft long, with a gross tonnage of 17,000 while its developed horse-power U expected to exceed 40,000; the Great Eastern wa3 682 ft lon^, 18,900 tonnage and 7,660 horsepower. The Oceam'9 is expected to be able to oross the Atlantic in 4| days, and to consume 700 tons of coal per day.
