Lebrefc, the Minister of Justice that the Dreyfus inquiry has terminated in the Criminal Chamber and the Court of Cassation intends to prononnce judgment. GENERAL EGAN'S SENTENCE. President MoKinley has commuted General Eagan's sentence of dism9sal for calling General Miles " a malicious liar," to six years suspension from the service. INDIAN AFFAIRS. The brigands who defeated the British forces at Gomatti have since abandoned their defences. Freqiient friendly communications have passed between Lord Ourzon and the Ameer of Afghanistan since Lord Curzon's arrival in India. It is hoped this will have fruitful results. All the Englishmen have withdrawn from Oabul. THE PHILIPPINES. ARMED WOMEN FOUND AMONG THE SLAIN. The Americans now control the country within a radios of nine miles of Manila. The Filipinos captured, murdered and mutflated an American named Dr. Young, Aguinaldo, the rebel leader, had 1 declared war on Saturday. General Otis intends to strike vigorously and prevent the Filipinos rallying. It is stated that armed women, with hair short cropped, were found amongst the slain. The humanity of the Americans in treating the Filipinos' wounded in the hospitals has surprised the natives. THE REBEL LEADER ON HIS KNEES. Aguinaldo, tha leader of the insurgents, has applied for an armistice. He wishes to hold conference with General Otis. Sj far no answer has been sent to his request. AMERICA TO BUILD MORE SHIPS. ' Tha Naval Committee of the House of Representatives recommends the construction of three battleships, three armoured and six ordinary cruisers, at a cost of 80,000,000d0l (£6,000,---000 sterling).
