GERMAN ACTIVITY IN THE EAST. M. Conetam, French Amba-eador at CiHWantinop'-, has proceed to the Turkish G >ve rnraen against a concession made t > a German rail way syndicate, giving it the right of controlling railways in Anatolia, the westernmost province of Asia Minor, and of constructing docks and warehouses at Haider, some distance south of Scutari. He complains that the concession will prove injurioas to a French quay com pany. DISASTROUS FIRE IN HUNGARY. In 9 Village of Nagybabroes, in Hungary, has been destroyed by fire. Ninety charred bodies have been recovered. Many were suffocated and frozen to death, the weather being extremely cold. Others were trampled to death by maddened oxen. Three hundred houses were burned
