MAORILANDERS v. TASMANIA.
The first match took place at Hobart, the New Zealanders in their first innings putting up the respectable total of 335 in their first innings. The following are the scores: — New Zealand.— First innings — Reee, j b Maxwell i ; Baker, c Me Allen, b 1 Eady 8i ; George Mills, b Eady 29 ; .' Cobcroft, b 83 ; Lusk, b 91 ; Ike Mills, ,b 3 ; Fisher, lbw, Burn 6 ; Boxshall, c McAllen 2 ; Downes, c McLeod 5 ; Frankish, b 19; Upham, not out 2; Extras, 13; total, 335. Bowling analysis—Eady, six for 150 ; Maxwell, one for 25; Burn, three for 37; Eady bowled three no-balls. Tasmania. — First innings — McLeod, bowled, 10: Eady, caught, 64; Hawson caught, 76; Maxwell, caught, 10; Ward, caught, 1 ; Davis, caught, 55 ; Bingham, bowled, 10; Richardson, ! bowled, 26 ; Payton, not out, 0 ; extras, 20 ; total, 343. New Zealand. — Second innings — Baker, not out, 51; George Mills; bowled, o ; Reese, 22 ; Lusk, caught, 17 ; Cobcroft, not out, 11 ; extras, 2 : total for three wickets 103. The fielding of the New Zealanders was quite a revelation. The bowling was not so good, and Frankish was decidedly off colour. The Tasmanians were unable to get the New Zealand team to play a third day, and the match was consequently drawn.
