Breaches of the Shipping Act.

In the S.M. Court at Wellington on Thursday the cases under the Shipping and Seamen's Act, 1877, were resumed. Captain Von Schoen, teacher of navigation, was charged with assisting to procure a certificate for. Captain Jones by false representation. The evidence showed that the first intimation of irregularities was conveyed to an officer of the Marine Department by Schoen. Subsequently the latter communicated with Messrs Hutcheson and Pirani, M's.H.R., the information conveyed being the subject of their speeches in Parliament. It was shown that the prepared papers presented by Jones to the examiners were in the handwriting of Schoen. Atter argument, Schoen was committed for trial, bail being allowed. The charge against Captain Jones was dismissed, the Magistrate holding there was no evidence to show that he connived at the false representation.
