A Buckjumping Feat.
« ! Quite an exciting, and at the same ! lime, interesting, event took place on Saturday afternoon at the conclusion •~<f ihe special hnvse sale held by Messrs L. Macphereon. Sternberg ■md Co., in their new yards (says the f3t<ndigo's Advertiser) One of Bendigo's best rough-riders, fancying that he had an animal unusually s^ood in fhs art of bnchjumping, f.iirew out a challenge 1 to all and sindry that no ons cnnld mount and successfully ride it with spur 3 for ten lainutes. The challenge was no sooner made than it was unexpectedly taken up ■>y a young fellow hailing from Queensland, who had horses at the -ale, and the neces?ary agreement md stakes having been deposited in >ihe hands of the manager of Messrs L. Macpherson, Sternberg, and Co. mjournment was made to the convincing ground, adjoining the new horse-yards. The animal chosen was a chestnut; mare in fine condition, with an j ye possessing all tbp characteristics ->f vice, temper, and wickedness and he Queenslander was no sooner in Hie saddle than ha commenced to experience what is generally understood as •• a lively time." He, however, performed the conditions of hig contract very fairly, and jamming the « hooks ' in freely, the onlookers were treated to a splendid exhibition of horsemanship seldom j seen nowadays. The mare was very clever, so was the rider, for she failed to throw him and loud plaudits greeted the successful horseman at the finish of the contest, which for skill, pluck and endurance will long he remembered by the four or five hundred people who had the ooportunity of witnessing the display. Mr George Miter acted as judge and 'iraekeeper, and gave satisfaction. \. liberal collection was made up for the Queensland horspman.
