SECOND DAY.
The Clnb had fine weather again for their second day's racing, although it looked threatening before noon. Not quite so many attended as on the former day, but still close on 1,500 persons were present. The racing was again good, and the officials of the Club worked hard all day. Only three horses were scratched during the day, consequently in the majority of races the fields were large. The first race on the card — the January Hack Han dicap — was won rather easily by Mr D. Scott's Worry, and in the next race — Second Hack Hurdles — Mr Scott's Hangfire again showed his superiority by winning, after a ding-dong race with his son's (Mr T. Scott's) horse Whangaroa. In the President's Handicap Surrey surprised a good many, and paid his supporters the nice dividend of £17 us, Primula having to be con.tent with second place, Toa running into third position. There were 12 starters for the Trial Hack Handicap, and the starter had some difficulty in getting his large field away. Forager, who was a big favourite, won this event with ease. Taplow and Worry had a big battle in the Grandstand Handicap, but the former gained the verdict after a slashing race. In the Railway Handicap that fine little mare, The Onyx, again came in a winner, a good fight between Flying Shot and Surrey on the way home resulting in the old grey gelding beating his opponent *on the post for second honours. In the Electric Hack Handicap Avondale was the only non- acceptor, leaving a field of eight. The Archar was quickest in getting away, and was never headed, winning throughout, Misguard getting second place, and Pastime third. The manner in which the second horse ran surprised a good many, and stamps the daughter of Vanguard as not being at all too slow. Following are results of second day's racing : — 1.
