Auckland Government House.

♦ The renovation of Government House is nearly completed. The main building has been finished with the exceptoin of the furnishing. Two or three n\en are still employed in the ballroom, carpenters and polishers. The Tonson-Garlick Furniture Company are about making a start with the! furniture ordered. All the rattan work is ready, and some of the furniture in the Exhibition exhibit has been selected. A good deal of the rest of the order will be taken from stock, so that the amount to be specially manufactured will not be large. The carpets were cabled for some weeks ago, and are being manufactured to the design selected by Lady Ranfurly, by Messrs Crossley, of Halifax, and may be expected about the middle of next month. The window curtains (throughout of Madras muslin) have also been ordered from Home. All the furniture and equipment which can be made in Auckland are being produced there, and only the articles which are not obtainable are got from the Mother Country. The custodian of Government House, Mr Henderson, is having the grounds placed in perfect order, and a larger number of flowers and plants have been in the previous season, that there will be plenty of bloom in the autumn. A number of "short sentence " men, in charge of a warder, ire also employed in doing up the grounds. The vice-regal party are expected at Auckland towards the end sf March, and will remain there for some time.-^-Auckland Herald.
