Social to Rev. S. Barnett.

Last evening a very enjoyable social was held in the Methodist Schoolroom to welcome the Rev. S. Birnett.|who is passing through from Waihi on his way to the Conference to be held in Ohristcburch. The rev. gentleman gave a rapid sketch of the work that had been accomplished during his tenure of twelve months there, which showed that good solid work was being done. The miners were described generally as a g od lot, and while there were rough characters on the goldfielda, yet amongst them were to be found some of the noblest men. While being very pleased to be amongst them egiin, he would go back to Waihi with very much pleasure. The Rev. WoollaSs and Messrs Ot» borne and Howan also spoke. During the evening refreshments were handed round, and solos were con tributed by Mrs Woollass and Misses Anderson, Simpson, Newth and Saunders.
