MANAWATU RACING CLUB.
A record attendance was looked for - at the races on -Boxing Day, but rain set in before the first race started and cootinued throughout the day. This a large number from attending, and many left after the races started. Everything, however, passed of well, and some close finishes were witnessed. A fair number went from Foxton by the train on "Monday to attend the races. Following are the results : — Telegraph Stakes, seven furlongs. — Tupuhi,' i ; The Hempie, 2 ; Aquatic, 3. Won by a head. Time, imin 33 4-ssec. Dividend, £2 3s. Hurdle Race, two miles. — Sabreur, 1 ; Splinter, 2 ; Shylock, 3. Won very easily. Time, 3mm 54sec. Dividend, £2 13s. Manawatu Cup.— Castashore, 1 ; Malatua, 2; Boreas, 3. Also ran— Douglas, Target, Ruamahunga, Rubin and Toa. Won from end to end by five lengths. A quarter of a mile from the start Ruamahunga fell, bringing down Douglas. Time, 2min 39 4-ssec. . Dividend, £10 19s. Hack Hurdles, one mile and threequarters. — Whangaroa, 1 ; Robin Hood 2 ; Merry Boy, the only other starter, fell at the last hurdle. Time, 2min 33 2-ssec. Dividend, £2 us. Maiden Hack, seven furlongs.— The Masher, 1 ; Southerly Buster, 2 ; Kohipo, 3. Time, imin 39 4-ssec. Dividend, £11 14s. The stewards are holding an inquiry respecting The Masher, who ran at another meeting under the name of The Masher, late Comedy. The owner, in nominating here, omitted to add, "late Comedy." The dividend was withheld, pending the result of the inquiry. Grandstand Handicap, one mile.— Bona Fide, 1 ; Peerage, 2 ; Tupuhi, 3. Won by two lengths. Time, imin 48 3-ssec. Dividend, £5 4s. Ladies' Bracelet.— Derry, 1 ; Daphne 2 ; Taplow, 3. Dividend, £2 gs. SECOND DAY. Summer Handicap. — Tupuhi, 1 ; The Hempie, 2; Peerage, 3. Won easily.. Time, imin 20 4-ssec. Dividend, £2 Bs. Handicap Hurdles, one mile and . three-quarters. — Sabreur, 1 ; Troubadour, 2 ; Alpine, 3. Won comfortably. Time, 3mm 23 4-ssec. Dividend, £1 17s. Electric Handicap.— Armoureux, 1 ; Titoki, 2; Aquatic, 3. Won by a length. Time, imin 4 2-ssec. Dividend, £4 17s. Hack Hurdles. — Whangaroa, 1 ; Merry Boy, 2 ; Robin Hood, 3. Dividend, £3. President's Handicap, one mile and a quarter. — Boreas, Bst iolb, 1 ; Bona Fide, 2; Douglas, 3. A splendid finish ; won by a length. Time, 2min usec. Dividend, £3 Bs. Christmas Hack Handicap.—Taplow, 1 ; Full Charge, 2 ; Master Hume, 3. Dividend, £2 10s. Farewell Handicap. — Marina, 1 ; Rubin, 2 ; Surrey, 3. Won by a neck. Dividend, £5 3s. The sum of £15,357 was P ut through the machine for the two days, against £14,828 last year.
