A Moa's Egg Found.

Dr Hockeo informs the "Otago Daily Time," that he received a telegram from Alexandra stating that a perfect specimen of a moa's egg had.just been discovered in that locality. If this interesting piece of news be verified, it will be the second perfect egg that has been found. Mr Fife was the fortunate discoverer of the first specimen, which he unearthed whilst digging in alluvial Boil at the Eaikouras in the early sixties. This egg was taken to England, and there purchased for 100 guineas. Its dimensions are a little over 9in in length and 7in in breadth. In 1865 an egg was found near Cromwell measuring nearly 9in by Gin. Unfortunately it was broken whilst being removed from its bed. The late Mr W. B. D. Mantell, of Wellington, restored quite a number of eggs by pieoing the . various fragments together — a work demanding immense labour and patience. As indicating the size, he was wont to say that a man's hat made an excellent eggoup for the egg.
