Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, DEC. 10, 1898. Monday's Meeting,
« We congratulate Mr Fraser on his first public move since bis election is Mayor. The meeting he has convened for Monday night is a most mportant one, and it it? to be hoped will be well attended. Under capable leadership the people of Foxton have -hown thpmselves capable of rising ibove self, as was witnessed in tbe celebrated Flax deputation, and we ;hsrefore anticipate an equally sue•espfnl result from Monday's meeting: if the public and representative men will only attend. It is a very great feather in the caps of those who have so frequently and consistently advocated the claims of our ocean neach to the notice of our inland neighbours, to know that at last they have been fo effective as to induce the Forresters to choose tbe beach is their great picnic ground on the 2od of January. They propose to :i>me in their hundreds, and have maranteed tbe steamers 800, w ; th hp probable addition of 200 or 800 more. The immediate object of thf meeting nn Monday night is to find out whether tbe residents here can in anyway further the object our visitors have in coming here. That we should desire to do so should be prompted by both neighbourly and business reason", as if these number >f people have a thoroughly enjoyable day it can bo easily imagined what a magnificent advenianrnpnt it would be to what we have always looked upon as the most valuable asse*; of this town. We do not desire to anticipate any of the proposals that may be mado at the meeting*, Din we trust that all who are engaged in the shipping, boating, fi-hing, and general business of the town will make a point of being present, ■
