"Le Matin" sayg it is natural that Great Britain should be exasperated at the constant tricks >f ihe French. The interpellation in the Chamber of D-puties with reference to Egypt h s been withdrawn, as silence is c m-idered the best safeguard. "Lj Temps" says that France will make fresh conciliatory efforts to settle an urgent and thorny question. The press is alarmed at the state of the armaments. Toe paper •' Gaulois," in an article,, appeals to Great Britain not t3 attack France without con suiting the power?. The Right Hon Aretas AkersDouglas, First Commissioner of Work? and Buildings, speaking at EL roe Bay, said the danger was not yet over, and Great Britain would not permit any Power's Territorial interest to come into opposition with its interests in regard to the construction of the Cape-Alexandria railway. The War Office has issued instructions for the efficient fortifica tion of Canada. The militia there is to be equipped and drilled. The Channel Squadron is at Gibraltar, where the stores and ammunition have been brought up to war strength.
