Farewell to the Rev, R. Young.

The social on Tuesday night at the schoolroom attached to All Saint's Church wa3 hardly as successful as oould have been wished, the very dark and damp night inter fering with the attendance. A great compliment was paid to Mr Young and his family by the leading members of other denominations being present, and some taking part in the proceedings. To the Vicav's churchwarden, Mr W. S Stewart was entrusted the direction of the events on the programme and after some musical items he presented to the Vicar a handsome travel ling bag and a pair of silver serviette rings as a keepsake from the resi dents. Mr Stewart also read an address from the churchwardens. To this Mr Young suitably replied and called upon all* present to remember that to ba successful they must all strive to gain the Grace of God. The musical portion went much more successfully, it having bsan placed in Mr England's hands. The choir children opened with the carol "Ring the Bells," and they afterwards sang " Stars are Shining Bright and Clear." These children having received their musical train ing irom Mrs England, acquitted themselves very well. Miss Collin9 sang " The Gay Tomtit," for which 9he received a very enthusiastic encore, and then the Rev W. Woollass sang " Resignation." This gentleman's singing was new to most of those present, and the manner in which he was received pat beyond all doubt what was thought, and the result was that another song " The Bridge " had to be given. A very musical item was next on the list, being a song by Mrs England " 0 Maria Stella," by Picoolomini, with a clarionet accompaniment by the Rev. R. Young, Mr England presiding at the piano. This was so much appreciated that a repetition was demanded and kindly acceded to. Mrs R. H. Barber's song was very much applauded, but the singer did not respond. Mrs Walter Robinson aocompained the singer on the piano. Mrs Woollass, who wa9 heard to great advantage, sang, " The Better Land," and in answer to a most deserved encore sang " Daddy," and later on this lady sang " The Toilers," but as the evening was getting late deolinod to give one more song, though the audience evidently desired it. Mrs England's last song " hy Serenata " by Braga, was accompained by Mr Young, and was as much appreciated as was the first item. During the evening Mr England presented Miss Belle Young with a hand3omsly bound Copy of " HymnsAncient and Modern," as a present from the Choir and the- Sunday School - scholars, and he took advantage to say a few words on the importance of church and choirs, and trusted more nterest would be taken to this work, aa both Mrs England md himself were ready to do all they could. The Ray. R. Young thanked the donors on behalf of his daughter. There was a very long interval after the presentation, when tea and coffee and cakes were handed round, and the opportunity taken to say a few words to one another. Mrs Whyte, upon whom all the heavy part of the evening's work fell was, as usual, most attentive. She was

ably assisted by many young and charming maidens. The evening tended to ihow to Mr Young that bis servioeß in the parish were duly appreciated and genuine sorrow is felt at losing one to whom all looked up Jo for comfort and Bpiritial guidance. We but,, reiterate the general feeling ifr* wishing the Vicar, Mrs Youog ITA^ family all health and prosperity at Oartetton. . .. ..
