China.
The British construction of rail. way* in China has led to farther trouble with the Chinese troops. A party of soldiers attacked a B itiah military officer, a railway engineer and the Chinese secretary of the British Legation in Pakin. Other soldiers compelled the British engineers to desist from work on the railway from Pekin to P*o-ting-fa, chief town of the province of Cbin-li, 70 miles south of the capital. Sir Claude Mac Donald, British Minister at Pekin, demanded redress for these offences, and the Tsung-U* Yamen consequently ordered the removal of the soldiers from Pao» fcingfu, and also punished those who had been guilty of the assault.
