THE WAR MINISTER RESIGNS
The French Chamber has jast concluded a tumultuous sitting. General Chanoine, Minister for War, declared, amid vehement applause, that his opinion regarding the Dreyfua case agreed with his predecessor's. He was the guardian of the honour of the army, and resigned his offioe from the tribune. A great demonstration followered on General Chanoine leaving the Chamber. M. Brisson declared that General Chanoine was present when the Cabinet decided to refer the Dreyfus case to the Court of^Cassation. t The Premier commented strongly on General Cbanoine's conduct in general, and especially on his sensational method of tendering his resignation in the Chamber. He believed Parliament would deolare for supremacy of civil over military authority, The Bitting of the Chamber was temporarily suspended, and on resuming M. Brissdn announced that the irregular resignation of General Chanoine had been accepted and an interim Minister of War would immediately be appointed.
