The Fat Girl of Cromer.
Mr Zangwill tells an amusing story of a once well-known charaoter "the fat girl of Cromer." "The fat girl was induced to visit a famous physician, who prescribed a most careful and detailed dietary to cure her obesity, and told her to call again in three weeks' time to report the effects of his treatment. On her second visit to the dootor she had grown so muoh stouter that she could hardly enter the doorway. * Dear ! dear I what's this ? ' exclaimed the worthy man on seeing her distressed condition, *My treatment doesn't seem to have done you much good,' ' No, sir ; I'm nearly a stone heavier,' was tbe rueful reply. «I hope you've taken your food regularly as I ordered.' ' Oh, yes, sir, every bit of it,' she protested earnestly. ' Nothing else, of course ?' he continued dubiously. 'Nothing, sir, only my ordinary meals ? ' "
