London. ; Id the election for the Darlington | seat to fill the oaoaney caused by i the death of Mr Arthur Pease, i (Unionist), a son of the late deceased ' Mr Pike Pease, has defeated Mr ' Oven Phillips (Liberal) by 688 votes or 81 more than his late father's majority in 1895. i DEATH OF SIR GEORGE GREY. The Bight Hon Sir Oaorge Grey, K.CB., formerly Governor and Premier of New Zealand, who has been in ill-health for some time, died on Tuesday at the age of 86 years. The immediate cause of death wan congestion of the brain, aocompanied by slight paralysis. The Timtt refers to the deceased statesman's striking, commanding md domineering personality. The Standard says Sir George Grey deserves the laßt gratitude of the nation. The Daily N&ws gay he was typical of what was best and strongest in the British race. . The funeral takes place on Friday.
