♦ (From H. C. Gibbons & Co.'s Catalogue.) SEPTEMBER. Continue to sow flower seeds both under glass and in open border. Thunbergias, Cobaea Scandens, Canary Creeper, Lophospermum, and Maurandyas are very useful climbing plants, which should be raised under glass «ind then planted out ; sow Sweet and Everlasting Peas and Nasturtiums for similar purposes. Sow " Hardy Ridge " Cucumber, Vegetable Marrow, and Pumpkin in small pots in the greenhouse. Sow Turnip, Peas, Savoy, Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli, Lettuce, Mustard and Cress, Radish, Parsley, and other herbs. Celery and Tomatoes may now be sown in the open ground. Bedding out should now be in full swing ; first plant the things raised from seeds or cutting in the Autumn. Plant Violets and Chrysanthemums. Tuberous Begonias, Gloxinias, Tydaes, and Achiinenes will now be starting into growth ; shake them clear of sou and re-pot. Cucumbers and Melons should be planted on well-prepared hot-beds ; place a layer of good turfy loam over the bed, if the loam is stiff add ashes from a rubbish fire to loosen it. Plant Asparagus, spread the roots out horizontally, and cover with three *" or four inches of soil. Divide and plant Thyme, Sage, Mint, Marjoram, and other herbs.
