Captain Thomas' Opinion — A Cat-chinp Lit* tie Talc of Music and Mousing. "Miss Whitccar Is the best singer I have ever hoard," cuid Lady Tabitha. "Do you not think so, my dear?" "I do not quite agree with you," replied Mrs. Mousor. "Miss Whitccar sings very well, but I fancy that in her last song she was a little out of tune. Do you not think so, Captain Thomas?" "I did not notice it," answered the captain, "but I will listen very carefully whilo Miss Whiteear sings the next song, •nd then I shall be able to tell you."

Then Captain Thomas put up his eyeglass and stood up at tho back of tho box and listened vciry attentively. But just as Miss Whitecar wn-? in the middle of the first verso a poor littlo mouse ran across the platform in front of her. At once Miss Whitecar stopped singing and sprang at the mouse. This so excited Captain Thomas that he jumped out of tho box and tried to assist Miss Whitecar to catch it. But they were not quick enough, and tho mouse got back to his hole, where they could not catch him. Miss Whiteear was too tired with the hunt to go on singing, and so tho concert came to a sudden end. "Next time," said tho captain, "I will take caro to catch that mouse." "But how about Miss Whiteearf" asked Lady Tabitha. "She sings well enough," answered Captain Thomas, "but she ought certainly to take lessons in mouse catching."
