The Hooley Sensation

The examination of E. T. Hooley. the bankrupt ppeculator, has beei resumed. He said he was prepared to prove every word that he said 01 Wednesday last. He asserted that he paid the Earl of Winchils^n through his Lordship's son (theHon Mr Fincb-Hatton), who is a menace of the House of Commons. The debtor produced cheques endorsed In Lord Winchilsea, and also by other who had disclaimed having received money. He said that Earl Da I Warr had offered him £1000 if h. would contradict the evidence ht gave last Wednesday, and simila offers bad been made by some of th Humber directors, and by anony mous persons on behalf of the Eat of Albemarle. Further, be stated that Mr Martin chairman of the H umber Company received £26.484, and Mr Kemr Welch, a director of Schweppe% Company, £55,000. The debtor made many sensational charges against directors of his different companies and others, tbf bulk of which have been denied either in Court or in the new papers. Earl De la Warr now admits that he received £20,000 as gifts in connectir n with the Hooley speculations, and offers to hand th© amount over to the Official Receiver. Daily disclaimers are being made as to Mr Hooley's charges by peers and business men whom he alleges to have accepted bribes.
