Prohibition Lecture.
W *~7. Last night the weather was anything but conducive to a large attendance, but it says much for the Rev. W. H. Judkins' reputation when f .we state that the Public Hall was fairly filled. The Rev. Mr Woollass took the chair, and made a few remarks on introducing the speaker. The Rev. W. H. Judkins spoke foi two hours, and hsld his audience with hin all the time. The subject of the lecture, though old, was treated in a new manner, the speakerdwelling more particularly on the financial •position relating to general taxation and heal rates. He illustrated hitpoint9 and arguments with fact' taken from everyday life, which thus ~ hammered the case more strongly into the minds of his audience. Ats the conclusion Mr W. S. Stewart was called on to move a vote of thanks, which he did in aparticu larly happy manner, and stated thai, in looking round the audience b noticed many sympathisers who were not directly interested in the local Good Templar Lodge, whom ho hoped would hereafter assis them in the work they had undertaken to do. The motion was so heartily applauded that the Chairman did not think it. was .necessary to call for a seconder, and it wa carried by acclamation. On the Chairman tendering the vote the Rev. W. H. Judkina made a few further remarks relating to 1 1 i present work, and stated he would b .most happy to visit Foxton again on some future occasion.
