NEGOTIATIONS FOR PfiACE
Acting under instructions from Don Sjgasta, the Premier of Spain, M. Gambon, the French Ambassador at Washington, made a request to the American authorities for the cessation of hostilities and the opening of negotiations for peace. In replying, President McKinley intimated that, personally, he is favourable to the discussion of term 1 ? of p.-ace and he will consult his Cabinet.
