All Saints Church.

Wolfe's Schmaphs

The annual meeting of the Parish ionerg was held last night in the Masonic Hall at 7.30 p.m. The Vicar (Rev. It. Young) in the chair. The Vicar's churchwarden (Mr W. P. Stewart) read the following :— ANNUAL PARISH REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET. Vestry. — At the annual parish meetIng held on 22nd July, 1897, the following Vestry was elected: — Mr A. S. Easton, Parishioners' Churchwarden; Mr W. S. Stewart, Vicar's Churchwarden; Messrs A. Fraser, B. Gower, A. Morton, W. Robinson, and E. S. Thynne. / Finance.-— The balance sheet up to 50th June, 1898, is appended. A debit balance- is shown of £4 15s id, liabilities of £14 13s iod, and assets of £10 17s Bd. The offertories show a very alight decrease on last year's (5s sd), the subscriptions to the assessment fund a considerable increase (£l2 14s sd). Notwithstanding this increase, however, the total amount received by the vestry during the past year was less than in the previous year by £19 14s 6d, nothing having been received this year from the ladies guild, or garden parties. Bazaar. — In 1897 a bazaar was planned and organised by the ladies of the Church for the purpose of raising funds to erect a Sunday School Building, a long and much felt want. This was held in November and the financial result was eminently satisfactory, amounting to £127 9s sd. The Building Fund account shows an excess of liabilities over assets of £36 19s 3d. The new school building is now all but completed. Sunday School. — The Sunday School is doing distinctly good work in the parish and is making steady and satisfactory progress. The teaching staff, including the superintendent, Mrs Stewart, numbers 8; number of children on school roll, 115; average attendance, 60. The new school building, a handsome and in every way suitable structure, will be a great boon to the teachers as well as to the children, and will doubtless help to increase the efficiency of the school. Thanks.— The Vestry desire to thank Mr and Mrs England for their untiring care in the conduct of the musical service of the Church, and the Lay Readers, Choir, and Sunday School Teachers for their self-denying labours.. (Signed.) W. S. Stewart, A. S. Easton. Churchwardens. July 37, 1898.

I have examined the above and find it to be correct. — W. Lanodon, Auditor. The Rev. R. Young said that laet year the Standing Committee had given notice that our assessment would be increased by £25, being £10 Foxton, £10 Levin, and £5 Shannon. There were two other items on the balance-sheet of £2 7s 6d, which would nob occur again. There had been no outside attempts, and thus the whole showed a most satisfactory position. As to tho offertories, there were a few families outside the Borough end thus owing to bad weather they had not been able to attend so regularly, and under these circumstances he looked upon the offertories as having been very good and really not having fallen off.. Mr Tbynne moved Mr A. S. Eastern seconded. That the Report and Balance Sheet be adopted. Carried. The Rev. R. Young nominated j Mr W. S. Stewart as his church- ■ warden. Mr Thynne moved Mr J. Coley seconded that Mr A. S. Easton be the people's churchwarden. Mr Easton was declared duly elected. The following gentlemen were proposed as vestrymen E S Thynne, Alf. Fraser. B. Gower, Morton, Walter G. Robinson, and declared elcoted. The Rev. R. Young said, in apeakicg on other matters that be felt we were bound within two years to have a Curate in the parish. He spoke of the hearty thanks due to Mr Alf. Fraser for his services as lay-reader and also to Mr Morton. He also spoke highly of the choir and said that it could be urged without contradiction that the psalms were pointed better than in any country parish. He expressed his thankfulness to Mr and Mrs England for their untiring energy with the choir, and to Mr Coley for'ringing the bell. He thanked the churchwardens, and said so in a very pronounced wav, for their energy in their work and for the way they obtained increased subscriptions. He thanked Mrs Stewart and the teachers for their work at the Sunday School and remarked that the children showed more : nterest in their work and a marked improvement in their singing, E<* also

wished to thank the ladies of the Guild, and had to mark out for more especial notice the continual'work of Mrs Whyte and Mrs Easton, and also thanked then for handing over the £14 odd due by the parish to the Guild. Proposed by Mr Tbynne, secconded by Mr T. Easton, That this meeting desires to thank the Lay readers, the OhurchwarI dena, Mr and Mrs England, the | Choir, the Sunday Sohool teachers, the Bellringor, the ladies of the ! Guild and Mrs Webb for their past services. Carried. Proposed by Mr C.
