ANNUAL MEETING
The annual general meeting of the above Glub was held at McMillan's late auction room last night at 8 o'clock. There was a very good attendance of members. Mr E. S. Thynne, vice-president, took the chair, and put the whole business through, including the reading of a large number of new rules, in the short space of one hour. After the minutes of the last annual meeting had been read and confirmed, the following report and balance-sheet were read : — REPORT OF COMMITTEE. The Committee submit herewith the annual balance sheet of receipts and expenditure for the year ending 30th June, 1898. Notwithstanding that the amount for the sale of privileges was £27 less than last year, the total receipts amount to £891 os gd, showing an advance of £46 14s od on the year's transaction ; this is accounted for chiefly by the v increase of totalisator revenue £5,7*, passing through the machine, as against £4,960 for 1897. The nominations and acceptances also show a slight increase. The total expenditure amounts to £1,149, or £370 more than last year ; the principal items being stakes £600; grandstand, £3xo ; salaries, £70 los ; printing and advertising; £65 , showing a debit balance of £65 us Bd. Acting on the recommendation made at the last annual meeting the Committee have had erected a new grandstand at a cost of £310 ; the building being designed by and under the supervision of Mr R. Edwards, and the labor being faithfully carried out by Messrs Easton and Jenks. The stakes for the last meeting were raised by £100 and two open races added to the jp«*gramme each day. This was<proved to be a great success, ;eo less than nine horses starting for the open handicap on the first day.
The Committee would recommend that the jockey's room be enlarged, and the totalisator house be removed to a more favourable position, and would also recommend the building of a caretaker's house on the course. The thanks of the Committee are due to all honorary and official members for the welfare of the Club. The Committee now retire according to rule.
