Foxton Mutual Improvement Society.

. j^ i The usual meeting of the above Society was held on Tuesday in the Methodist Schoolroom. Mr E. Osborne, Vice- President, . in the chair. The principle feature of the meeting was a lecture by Mr W. S. Stewart, 8.A., on the works and life of the poet Byron. The lecturer dwelt equally upon the life and works of the poet, incidentally mentioning that he was a man who hated all his neighbours but — loved his neighbours wives. At the conclusion the lecturer read portions of which he considered the gems of his works,, the piece entitled " The Shipwreck " catching on with the meeting. During the evening items were contributed by Miss Osborne, Mr C. Baker and Mr T. Westwood, and the evening concluded in the usual manner. Next Tuesday it was announced a debate on Capital Punishment would take place.
