i The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday. There were present — Ors W. Taylor (chairman), J. McLennan, J. G. Wilson, T. Masters, A. Strang, T. Clarke and H. Hammond. The inward correspondence was deal with as follows : — From W. Langdon. Moutoa Estate, drawing attention to the bad state of the roads at Shannon Ferry and bad provision for crossing stock. — Left to Or Strang to inquire into. From W. J. Simpson, Orona Bridge, applying for a slaughtering ,
license on section 18, block 4, Mount Robinson. — Application not advertised. From John Dennis, Rongotea, stating that he had no claim on John Mathers. From tbe Manawatu Road Board, drawing attention to the dangerous condition of the Oeoo-bßridge on the Palmersfcon-Foxton road. — It wa_— stated it was under the control of the\ Board. w From the Rangitikei County Coun- * cil, consenting" to "sutf 'committee m eting members of the Manawatu County Council on the Rangitikei bridge site, and sending tracing of plan of bridge. From John Duthie & Co. and Briscoe, McNeal & Co.. quoting^ piices for second hand rails. ? From the Government Railway Engineer, stating that 10 tons of second-hand 401b rails were being <en*. i \ Frcm tbe Foxton Borough Coun* ci', with copy of a resolution pissed by that body as follow*:— That the Horowhenua and Manawatu County Councils be requested to appoint _». tvpre?outative to act with this Ooun-^» ;1 re appointing the Engineer and other details in connection with the erection of proposed bridge over the Manawatu river at Wirokino. From P. E. Daniells, ferryman at the mouth of the Rangitikei river, , stating what repairs were needed to approaches and punt.-— Left in the hands of the Chairman. From the District Engineer, re* porting on the condition of the tram* way, pointing out that some of the joints were not good,, From John Steer, Motuiti, applying for charitable aid, and stating that he had been 40 years in the colony. — The Chairman to deal with application. Fiom Charles Bull, on the matter of land for the approach to the proposed Rangitikei Bridge, giving the address of James Bull in England. — Mr J. Bull to be written to. From H. Honore, stating that the Main Drain inn d was becoming im* passable. — lif fe. red to Overseer. From the Under-Secretary asking if tho ( bincil approved of the erection of »hp Rantptikei Bridge on the site chosen. — Tbe r^ply giving approval smt a fortnight ago and Council now rafifiYd. action of Chairman. From the Treasury, notifying the deposit of £500 to the credit of tlftr^ CouD.il on account of the JEOjOOO Innn; also, stating that the loan of £250 for metalling portion of San--jon'-j road wns now available. From the Tramway Manager, with lii-mtb-y balance-sheet, Showing that the truffle was steadily increasing, •*n<l n Hiring for instructions in the m \l tor of collecting, overdue accounts. ~ The Council considered that the Munager should follow ordinary bnpiness practices. It was deoided to givfe tlie Glerk a f, w days holiday and notify by advertisement the time the County Office will be closed. It. was resolved — That a general rate ot fd in the £, a spparate rate of £d in the \wahou, 7-16ths of a penny in.the £, in the Sandon Riding, fd, in the ridings of Waitohi and Campbell, Jd in the ridings of Mt. Stewart, Carnarvon and Kawa Kawa, to be pay- .
