Ab the last meeting of the Ft xton Borough Council the following letter was read :— Depfc. of Lands and Survey, Wellington. Sib,— l am directed by the Hon. Minister of Lands to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 17ib in-.t M in which yon ask for a subsidy *of £ for & for the construction of a bridge otfer the Manawatu River ai Wirokino, near Foxton. 1 understand this bridge is to cost £5850

and the Government contribution would therefore be £2775. As your Council did not make application for this subsidy before March last, the end of the financial year, the matter ' will have to stand over for considers- j tion vith the Estimates and be revoted by the House.
