BOMBARDMENT OF SANTIAGO POSTPONED.
President McKinley has ordered a postponement of the bombardment of Santiago as desired. General Shafter and Admiral Sampson are to confer prior to the resumption of hostilities. Lieutenant-General Pando, after desperate fighting and forced marches has entered Santiago, thu9 increasing the defenders to 18,000. General Shafter declines the Consul's request to protect the residents.
