THE FIGHTING IN CUBA.
The movement started by Booseveldt's Cowboys to dislodge the Spaniards from the Savilla height? was undertaken with-out the knowledge or authority of General Shatter. There is some talk of those responsible for it being tried by court-martial.
The men complain that they were supplied with clothing unsuitable for the hot climate. They left behind them a long trail of discarded uni. forms and blankets.
General Pando i 3 leading 10,000 Spanish troops from Holquin (65 miles north west of Santiago) to Santiago.
The Cuban insurgents have been ordered to intercept this army. The Cubans report that there are seven miles of barbed wire round the Spanish trenches encircling Santi ago.
General Sbafter's outposts are at Rio Guama, within sight of Santiago. An attack will be made on Wednesday if sufficient artillery can ba got to the front.
Spies report that the defences are extensive and formidable, every hill being occupied by a blockhousa. President McKinhy notifies that the blockade art a, of the southern coast of Cuba has been extended from Cipe Frances, the western extremity of the Isle of Pines, to Oabo de Oruz, the southermost point of Cuba near Santiago.
