Foxton Borough Council.
A special meeting of the above was held last night at 7-30 at the Borough Chambers. Present — Or P. Hennes«*y (in the chair), ana Cva J. W. Walsh, W. B. Rhodes and A If. Fraser. The chairman said the meeting had been called to pass a by law affecting the use of bicycles, etc., on the footpaths and also to consider an application for a flaxmill site. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Rhodes, That thfc Council hereby adopt the following addition to the by-laws of the Foxton Borough : It shall not be lawful to ride a bicycles, tricycles, and similar machines on the footways within the Borough. All such machines shall carry bells, or such instruments as are commonly employed, to give warning of their approach. The rider of every such machine shall provide a lighted lamp during the hours between sunset and sunrise. No person shall furiously or negligently ride such machines in any street of the Borough. Any person failing to comply with the provisions of this by-law shall be deemed guilty of an offence. Carried.
Proposed by Or Fraser, seconded by Or fthodas, That the application of 0. P. Nelson for permission to erect a now flaxmill in Harbour street between the mills of Messrs Austin and King be granted, subject to payment of rent to the Borough for site. The said rent to be the same as is demanded from other flaxmillers in Harbour street, viz., £5 per annum. The Council reserves to itself the right to interfere if the space taken up, the nature of the building, or if any other matter is not to their satisfaction. Carried.
