THE ATTACK ON CUBA. REPORTED AMERICAN REVERSE. It is reported that the American battleship Texas (6815 tona) and the cruiser Marblehead (2000 ton?) was defeated in a second attack on Guitanamo, 40 miles east of Santiago de Cuba. Admiral Simpson's fleet, which took part in the bombardment of the shore batteries on Monday, is reported to have been largely re-Bupplied with ammunition. It is stated that the advance picket of marines who were missed during the Attempt to land have turned tip safely. , The American marines were in a critical condition, being exhausted from the incessant attack of tbe Spanish. The guns of the fleet alone prevented their being overwhelmed. Mr Whigham, the war correspondent who was arrested at Favana, reports the city to be impregnable and fairly provisioned. The insurgents having reinforced the American marines at Gauntanann they succeeded in capturing a Spanish post five miles inland, killing 100 and capturing Iff, together with a quantity of ammunition. Owing to delay in obtaining tran* ports, tha Amerioan force will nit reach Santiago before Sunday.
