Foxton Borough Council.

The following: reports were read at the last meeting of the Borough Council : — EESERVE COMMITTEE. Having mentioned the state of the fencing which needs repairing, the report continues " The Committee recommend that some" tijejes be planted at the N.W. corner where there is drift sand, and a fence put up to protect them. About the middle of the N. boundary and at the end of the belt of trees there is also drift sand about one chain long and half chain wide. This should be laid with manuka and sand-bind-ing grass. This drift sand is on the next reserve. Tho silver poplars planted on the raoeconrae side of fence are spreading into the Beserve and should be destroyed. FERBY RESERVE. The Committee this date Visited the Ferry Reserve and fixed the site of the now public pound. Mr Hillary proposed a wire fence race from the road to the pound entrance, which we approved of. This will entail a small additional charge. It appears that the contractor in his contract for repair of fence (£1 10s) only estimated for repair of fence on the river and town sides. The quostion of repair of other two sides had better stand over until the present contract is finished. At back of reserve there is tome drift sand which we recommend should be planted with ice plants. LIBRAE*. The Committee find the following unserviceable or not worth keeps ing:— B heaps of papers, consisting chiefly of weeklies of old dates ; 56 copies of Quarterly Reviews of old date and much soiled ; 188 volumes of works, either very old date, much damaged, or not worth the cost of rebinding. The Committee recommend that the foregoing be eliminated from the Library stock and authorise the Librarian to dispose of them in what' ever way he finds convenient. The Committee also authorise the Librarian to provide the following periodicals for use in the Public Reading Room :— Strand, Pearson's, Oassplls'p, Magazines and the Review of Reviews. The old books mentioned above were sold, as authorised, and rea< Used £2 80.
