HAVANA BOMBARDED.
The torpedo-boat Portea reports that the New Orleans, lowa (11,296 tons), Texas (6800 tons), and.Massacbusetts (10,200 tons) cannonaded Havana forts until the Spanish cruiser Cristobal Colon (6840 tons) intervened, when the fire of the American vessels was turned on her, sompelling her to retreat behind a beadland. 7Tbes, forts Morrd and Sooapa were destroyed, and many of ;he garrison killed* The authorities regard the attack is a mere reoonaaissance to ascertain ;he strength of the defences.
