Assembly Dance.
The first of a series of three dances to be given was held at the Publi«pJJ| Hall last night, and proved to be most^ enjoyable and passed off very jpleasantly. Not quite so many were present as was expected, and' consequently the dancers had more space to 'trip the light fantastic,* and' the floor was not at any time overcrowded, which is certainly not pleasant when it is. The. interior of the hall had been made very pretty by the committee and a number of other willing helpers, flags being placed all round the hall and across, ferns covered the walls and a large number of shrubs and toi-toi' were placed in suitable pb\ces. A committee of ladies also provided a bountiful supply of refreshments, a,nd they are to be complimented for the supper, which was all that could be desired. Mr Haybittle and son, of Feildiag, supplied the music, consisting of piano and cornet, and great pains had been taken to get the floor into grand order. - The programme of dances was also much admired* and everything was really done to make the. dance go off well. The next assembly dance will be held oo the 15th of juoje.
