Manawatu County Council.

.The ordinary monthly meeting of - the Council was held on Wednesday. Present — Crs W. Taylor (chairman),. McLennan, T. Clark, T. Masters, . Hammond, and J. G. Wilson. Amongst the correspondence read . was the following : — From E. Morris, asking permission to cut flax on the County roads.-^Cr Hammond suggested that the application might be granted subject to the flax roots being grubbed up; other members were in favour of selling the right for a lump sum.-rlt was decided to request Mr Morris to make an offer for the right to cut the flax on the roads. From R. H. McMillan, stating that the bridge over the Main drain, which .connects the Taikorea road with Main Drain road, was unsafe for traffic. — ' The Overseer said one of the stringers Was broken, but it could be made sufficiently strong for the traffic it has to carry by the expenditure of £5. From Martin Boyle, requesting the Council to order the timber required on his contract and keep the cost of the timber from money dv« to him.— Agreed to. From the Surveyor-General, acknowledging the receipt of the plans for the Beach road, Foxton, and pointing out the steps to be taken to place the land under the provisions of the Land Transfer Adi. It was resolved that a week's leave of absence be granted to Mi Wrigley in accordance with his application. The Chairman said there had been a great want of consideration on the part of the Land Valuation Department for the persons who desired to object to the valuations recently made. Land owners in the County had received no notification of the sitting of the Assessment Court. It was resolved, That the attention of the Valuation of Land Department be drawn to the fact that no sitting of the Assessment Court was held within the Manawatu County, nor was the sitting held at Palmerston advertised in a paper generally circulating in the County. The overseer in his report called attention to the damage done to the roads by sheep grazing on the road. A mob of 1000 sheep were referred to, which it was stated were constantly on the road. "~ It was resolved, That proceedings be taken against any person found herding sheep on the roads within the County for the purpose of grazing. It was resolved, That the following tenders be accepted :— W. H. Howe's for contract No. 53, drain formation, at 228 6d per chain; J. R. Richard, for 52, filling in Wilson's line, at £12. That tenders be invited for supplying metal and clay on River bank, Bainesse line, and also scrub and metal for the protection of Scott's Ferry. The CB airman was requested to arrange with Mr Bull for the purchase of the land required for the approach to the Rarigitikei bridge, also to meet the Chairman of the Rangitikei County Council and discuss the estimates and the plan of the approach on the Manawatu side. Having passed the monthly accounts the Council adjourned. — Advocate.
