In .1 few minutes ho reappcai'ed, determination written in every deep lino of his rugged fnce, though his manner did not lack hesitation. Ho stared about him until ho espied a lino of patrons making deposits nc tho receiving teller's window, and at tho foot of the line ho took his place. As ore aftor another of the customers mado his deposit and departed the little old fellow drew nearer and nearer to the window, and at each advanco his uneasiness increased and his courage departed.

When almost to tho goal, ho turned abruptly, wagged his head in a deprecatory sort of way, and again took a place at the tail end of the lino he had climbed so pa* tiontly. A second time ho approached the window by slow degrees and a second time he turned away when his hopes were about to be realized. The third time ho toiled up that over varying line and it was apparent that this time ho would do or die.

Only two men stood between him and the toller, and ho shifted restlessly from ono foot to another. Only one man now kept him from tho counter and his agitation increased. That one man turned away.

Tho little old man's time had come at last) He jerked his hand from his pocket and with it n hugo roll of greasy and oft lingered bills He dashed tho money down Jn front of tho puzzled teller and in a voice husky with emotion, excitement and suppressed nervousness exclaimed loud enough to be heard 100 feet nway:

"Oi want t' jive the bank!"

Ho wanted to oj:c,u an account and no ono interposed au objection —Chicago
