The New Town Clerk.

This official has entered upon bis duties and will meet, we have no doubt, with every consideration while he is settling down to his work. He is fortunate in having been almost; the unanimous choice of the Council, for which he has to thank the magnificent testimonials which ac companied his application. As the Council seemed determined to ap point some person residing out of the town to the office, they could not have done better than they have, though we still maintain that in this action they have erred and treated their supporters very cavalierly. Two officials at present under the Council loose their appointments from no fault of their own, and as we have before remarked, four other rate-

payers have lost their chance of increasing their income. Of course we may be wrong in our views, and the Councillors may be right, but the ratepayers are most to blame for not having made their views more unmistakeably clear. Whatever dif fersnees we may have amongst ourselves hag nothing whatever to do with Mr McQueen, the new Town Clerk, whom we cordially welcome to Foxfcon, and trust he may find that everything will work as smoothly as he could wish, and as we feel assured he will use his best endeavours to make it work. We trust his residence amongst us will be always looked back to with pleasure by him.
